Short hairstyles can be the happy or unhappy result of a bad hair experience.
In Faith Hill's case, chopping off her long hair was the best thing she'd ever done, stylishly speaking, but she did it because the Caribbean sun, wind and salt spray had crisped her long, braided locks.
In the case of Keira Knightley, short hair wasn't even a choice - her long hair just broke off and fell away in handfuls, after she'd made one concession too many to the roles she had to play.
