The Hairstyle: Jessica Simpson with short straight hair cut just below chin length, in a bobbed hair style.
Jessica's hair is parted in the middle and falls evenly on both sides. Short layers at the front curve round the corners of her eyes and in towards the mouth.
At the ends, her hair curves in to her throat and tucks beneath her chin.
It's unusual to find a picture like this where Jessica Simpson looks attractive. It helps that she doesn't grimace at the camera in her usual fashion. This photo captures her looking away to the side.
But in fairness, this short bobbed hair style really works for her. And the makeup round her eyes disguises the ghastly results of unnecessary cosmetic surgery.

She pulls a big section of hair forward to hide her forehead (a good move, given the shape of her face). This fringe sweeps down from the left of middle, curving across her eyebrows and the bridge of her nose to end on the lashes of her right eye.
Behind the fringe the rest of her hair curves round the top of her head, tucking back behind her left ear but slightly overhanging her right. This effort to sketch a classic oval round her face is defeated by her long, sunken cheeks and the angular harshness of her jaw.

Ashlee parts her hair in a rough zig zag above her left eye, and draws one section over the top of her head. She anchors this section with a bobby pin at the corner of her forehead.
From that point her hair tumbles down beside her cheek in a widening sweep of big curls that stops just below chin height.
On the left of her face a similar cascade of curls erupts, but it reaches well out to the side first, as far as the outside of her ear, before making a couple of tentative swirls back in towards the cheek.
The wider swell of hair on this side creates a curved, off-center symmetry that helps disguise the true shape Ashlee Simpson's face - a rectangle.
It's a device that many women use, the same device employed, in fact, by Jennifer Aniston when she wore The Rachel, the haircut that transformed her diamond face shape into something infinitely more mysterious.

Angela's haircut is similar to Jessica Simpson's bob in 2006 Short Hair Style Pictures number 1. But where Jessica Simpson uses a center part, Angela's hair is parted on the side.
The side part lets Angela draw her hair round in a big, sweeping curve, from the top of her forehead past her cheek, and in beneath her chin.
The line of this curve falls well inside the true bounds of her face, which to our eyes takes on a slim and rounded, much more elegant shape.
On her left Angela's hair falls almost vertically from the part. Its layers taper past the corner of her eyebrow, round the eye itself and down her cheek, till finally they tuck beneath the chin with false but attractive symmetry.
Side-parted hair styles do it so well.
Angela Peel's hair color is black and red - black for the most part, with generous streaks that fade upwards, from vivid red at the ends to almost blonde.

The Hairstyle: MC Lyte with with a short shag hair style that would do justice to Lisa Rinna. And like Lisa Rinna, MC Lyte has a long face to contend with.
In this choppy, spiky, tousled style, MC the MC divides her hair above the right eye. She spikes it up all along the hidden line of the part, with the spikes curving in from the side towards the middle.
The spikes continue all the way down the right side of MC Lyte's hairdo, evolving as they descend into the upward flicks we see in Lisa Rinna Hair styles.
At the front, MC brings her hair forward in bangs that leave very little of her forehead visible.

The Celebrity: Nia Long aged 35
The Hairstyle: Nia Long with a very short hair style indeed!
Nia's hair appears cropped but isn't. It's short, certainly, and drawn back all along the hair line so that it follows what appears to be the shape of her head.
But when you look closely there's a long section of hair smoothed over the top, from her right to her left, and you can see that the hair has been raised slightly above the forehead and below this longer, lateral section.
The effect is to build a very smooth, very round, very attractive shape atop Nia Long's head, so that her face reflects that perfect oval to which so many women aspire.
It's a shape that isn't necessarily foreign to her anyway, as you can see in another of her 2006 hair cuts pictures. But this hair style certainly brings out that oval.
Nia Long's hair color is dark brown with lighter brown as highlights.

The Hairstyle: Brittany Murphy with short hair in a curly updo.
At first glance this could be a long curly updo, with its dangling spirals beside the cheek and a hint of volume massing at the ears. But Brittany Murphy's hair is cut short enough, though some might call this a short to medium hair style.
Brittany trains her hair across the top of her head from a parting on the left.
Short layers at the front round off and narrow her forehead above the eye, and long bangs extend the line of these short layers into a graceful curve sweeping all the way down to the corner of her eye and out again.
The bangs expose her cheek and curl round on themselves, ending in spirals that point the way to her jaw.
On her left, Brittany's hair indulges no such flights of fancy. After the merest of uprisings it drops straight down from the part, to be overlaid with hair at the temple and side which she pulls backwards across it.
A lock of hair escapes this restraint, swells out above Brittany's ear and curves back in behind the lobe in an echo of the broad-sweeping spiral on her right.
