Jane Lynch's Short Hair for Older Women

This feminine short hair style meets nearly all the right criteria for Jane Lynch - it suits her face, reflects her hair type, and is very appropriate for her age.

The hair color is probably not quite right for her. This light blonde with a handful of fine highlights works well with olive skin tones, but it makes Jane look more grey and washed out. The color is too harsh. A touch of gold would help, because it adds warmth to skin tones.

For a comparison look at this hairstyle, where a touch of gold and a softer, slightly longer cut give Jane Lynch a younger, fresher look.

To achieve the wispy look tof this short hair for older women the stylist has razored Jane's hair, cutting it very short at the crown and front but leaving it longer round the ears and neck. She's used the razor throughout the hair, but on the forehead she's made the ends especially wispy. Then she's carefully blow waved Jane's hair and finished with sculpting cream.

How to get this Hairstyle

Start with a root lifting spray on damp hair and blow dry with gentle heat at the nape. Work your way up, always lifting the roots. Use styling wax or sculpting cream for definition. Take great care to smooth down or lift and flick the hair up in the appropriate places. Finally, give it a very light hair spraying.

Note: Sculpting cream is easy to use, but take great care when applying it - less is definitely more. Rub a small amount of the cream into your palms, make sure none is stuck under your nails (or you'll end up with greasy looking hair) and then apply the cream where you want to achieve volume, definition or smoothness.

There are many, many finishing products on the market - products for soft hold, firm hold or no hold, and for a shiny, matte, spiky or wet look, just to suggest a few! So make sure you know what effect you want to achieve before you buy a hair styling product.

On this occasion a water based, non waxy finishing cream has been used in order to make the hair fuller, add definition and create a soft look.

Use products like this on dry hair. They dissolve in water (because they're water based), so if you use them on wet or damp hair you won't get any results.
