Look at Jenna Elfman's funky, modern, asymmetrical haircut!
This short layered hairstyle can't be categorized easily. It's certainly short, it's definitely layered throughout, but it's not a bob, a pixie or any other general class of hairstyles - it's something quite different.
Jenna's short hair style is all about angles. The stylist has cut into the back - people with long hair wouldn't know the term, though girls with short hair would. In layman's terms it means the hair at the back below the crown is cut in towards the neck at a steep angle. The hairdresser has then used texturizing scissors to make the ends very wispy. The effect is what you might call organised messy - and it's lovely!
This is a short haircut that works incredibly well for Jenna Elfman.
The asymmetry in the cut is subtle. It's at the back, and at first you don't even notice it. We can't actually see the back in any of these photos, but from the pictures we have we can deduce what's happening behind Jenna's head.
In front of her right ear, and behind and below it (in the main photo - click to enlarge here), the hair reaches down level with a point at least half way between Jenna's mouth and the tip of her chin. The same section on her left, however, which you can see in this photo, barely draws level with the corner of her mouth.
It may seem odd to create a line of uneven length at the back that can barely be seen, but it's aesthetics. It works. This is one cute short hairstyle!
The front of Jenna's haircut is dominated by a very long and unusual side fringe - unusual because the hair is drawn from so far back. Everything is brushed forward from the crown and then swept to the side - over the bridge of her nose, across one eye and coming to rest finally on her cheekbone.
She's able to achieve that dramatic and, dare we say, gorgeous side fringe because the layering has been so carefully and cleverly done. It wouldn't be possible otherwise. And it's the fringe that gives Jenna that cheeky look.
Three colours are at work in Jenna's hairstyle - golden blonde or honey through the roots, a medium blonde through the mid-length and, of course, high lift blonde along the ends. The golden blonde, especially, gives greater depth to the overall colour and is in total harmony with Jenna's eyebrows and skin tones.
When and where did Jenna Elfman wear this hairstyle? On Tuesday 12 April 2011 at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, California, when she attended the premiere of Dumbstruck.
This hairstyle is all about the cut. The cut is everything. But if you want to try Jenna's look, work some styling gel (medium hold) into damp hair and, using a medium size round brush, blow dry the hair forward. Tuck some of the strands behind the ears. Sweep the hair to the side over the eyebrows. When it's all dry, use a pomade to flatten the top with your fingers and create definition along the neckline.
